Season 1 Closing (2)

Kagerou

Episode 14 of xxxHolic saw the premire of the show's second ending credits, Kagerou which continued the look of Reason with a completely black backdrop and spotlights highlighting the character/s present yet took it a step further with a heavier song, more colours and continual movement throughout.

The credits begin with Maru and Moro playing air guitar to the new song. It's interesting to note that when the two girls are seen from a distance, they seem to have been drawn in a deformed manner, however in the two close-ups of each of their bodies we see them portrayed in the same style as in the episodes.

Halfway through the credits, Mokona makes his entrance with some air drumming and then all three supporting characters rock on until the finale when they all jump in the air and land as the series title is revealed behind them.

The song, Kagerou was sung by a very well established band called, Buck Tick. Kagerou was released on single in three different versions; The first was the limited edition xxxHolic single which contained the full version of Kagerou and another Buck Tick song. This limited cd also sported a xxxHolic cover with artwork exclusive to this release created by Production I.G.
The second simultaneous release was a regular cd single version which contained the same two tracks as the previous version and a regular Buck Tick cover.
There was also a DVD edition released which featured the regular cd single as well as a separate DVD with the music video for the clip.

If you're after these three editions to complete you CLAMP collection, I recommend YesAsia who offer free international shipping and very cheap sales prices.

Overall I loved this ending a lot more than the first one (which I also liked). There was a brilliant use of colours for such a minimalist approach and the new song, Kagerou was one of the better anime ending songs I've heard in a while. The use of a male group also seems to suit the series more than Fonogenico for some reason. Buck Tick really were a perfect choice.

Kagerou started airing with Episode 14 and continued for the remaining episodes of xxxHolic's first season.
