Tsubasa / xxxHolic Project Updates
Been a while huh? News has been pretty slow but there've been several big Tsubasa announcements in the past few weeks well worth mentioning.
The OAV (or OAD as people are saying now with the move from VHS to DVDs) sequel to Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations and xxxHolic Kei currently just going by the name, "Tsubasa / xxxHolic Project" has been postponed from January 2009 to February due to the delay in the manga.
An official site has been launched but no other major news so far.
The second season of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles has premiered in English and Japanese on Region 1 DVD with the release of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle Season 2 Starter Set. The second DVD is due for release later this month on the 30th of September and is now up for preorder.
Manga-wise we've got a bit of a wait with the next volume, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle #19 not coming out until the 19th of November.
Tsubasa #20 is being released a bit faster though with a 27th of January 2009 release date set.
Readers of my xxxHolic site will know about the recent announcement of 2 xxxHolic DVDs that will be attached to upcoming volumes of the manga in Japan.
Well the recent manga release of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles has revealed that 2 Tsubasa DVDs will also be released as well!
The teams on both DVDs being the same, does make one assume that they may be linked, similar to how the movies were and the release schedule also makes one believe so with xxxHolic #14 coming out in January and then Tsubasa coming out the following month.
Should be very interesting as more official news is revealed.
First of all, the release of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle #18 has been moved forward from the 12th of August to the 22nd of July! Almost a whole month early!
Also, according to several sources, there's going to be a BIG announcement regarding Tsubasa attached to the next volume of the Japanese manga due for release in a week or so. Everyone seems to think it has something to do with Mokona's "anime script" she had been working on. My bet is on another Tsubasa OAV possibly crossing over with xxxHolic!
July 17th can't come fast enough!!!

As previously mentioned, the two movies that were screened together in Japan though released separately will be released together in a 2 disk double pack for the American/Canadian Region 1 release.
Amazon.com is taking preorders here, currently offering a US$8.99 (30%) discount! Pretty good!
Those who can't wait for Tsubasa #16 should be aware that the street release date has moved back a few days from the end of this month to the 5th of February. Only a few days.

Just got back to Japan a few days ago so a big HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of my visitors and readers!!!
This year has a LOT in store for Tsubasa fans with the Tsubasa and xxxHolic movie coming out on DVD next month as well as the Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations OAVs the second of which comes out in just a few days!
YesAsia has updated and is now offering pre-orders for the next three Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle manga volumes which each come with a subsequent DVD volume of Tokyo Revelations!
Remember that Tsubasa #21 which comes with the first Tokyo Revelations DVD also comes with a DVD box to hold all three DVDs. Only first prints will be shipping with these boxes so pre-ordering is highly recommended. #21 is due for release in just a few days on the 16th of November!
Tsubasa #22 which comes with the second DVD is due out on the 17th of January and Tsubasa #23 which comes with the third and final DVD will come out on the 17th of March.

AnimeNewsNetwork has just posted an article on how the Japanese government has asked the US government to crack down on illegal anime and manga downloads. Surprisingly almost everyone in the forums over there agrees with the decision!
Personally I'm against fansubbing of anime and manga especially series like Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle and xxxHolic which are currently being released officially stateside as well as in Australia and other countries in English.
This is why I no longer link to torrents or sites that offer Tsubasa and xxxHolic manga and anime for download. Services like those affect the sales of the series here as well as back in Japan.
What do you think?

YesAsia has just added Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle 21 which comes with the first Tokyo Revelations DVD due out in Novemeber here for preorder. As far as I know only a limited ammount of DVDs will be made so preordering is recommended. I know I'll be doing it.
I'll update the store pages with this info soon. Also expect some DVD reviews shortly as well as more pages of info concerning the Season 1 episode guide as well as character and world guides.

Special thanks to Clamp Now for posting this and those involved in the translating for now we know exactly how the new Tsubasa OAV will be released and when and what it will actually be!
Seems that the OAV will be split into three 25 (approx) minute episodes spread across three DVDs. Each DVD will chip with a regular edition of the Tsubasa manga starting with volume 21 due for release on the 21st of November. The manga with the DVD (3360 Yen) will cost more than the manga without it (about 500 Yen).
The best news though is that the amazing Production I.G. who animated the Tsubasa movie as well as the xxxHolic anime will be behind it!
I'm hoping that people will actually buy these manga volumes instead of waiting for the Raw or Sub download. Projects like this are only made if they sell well and if we honestly want more Tsubasa anime this OAV has to sell well!
The sales of the live action Sailor Moon DVDs sold so well that they gave the fans the special wedding Special Act and the Sailor V Act Zero. If Tokyo Revelations sells well enough it's fair to assume that (especially since the manga hasn't finished yet) more will be made.
This OAV isn't going to be broadcast on TV. It's not up to viewers in Japan, it's up to how many copies sell.
The first one comes with a box to hold all three DVDs and all the covers and box art will be done by CLAMP exclusively for the release. It's a great value purchase and will be at least two years before coming out in an English speaking version (if at all).
I urge everyone to support this OAV. Please.

The cover for Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle #15 has been released so I've uploaded it to the Manga Page. It's one of my favourite covers in the series so far. The first to feature sakura flowers which is pretty unusual for CLAMP.
In 8 days the first Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle DVD will be released! Woo Hoo! Amazon is still offering a 25% discount for all orders placed before the release date. You can get the regular DVD HERE and the "Starter Kit" which comes with the box HERE.
I've already pre ordered mine! Can't wait!!!
AnimeonDVD.com has already scored themselves a copy and have done a rather general review of it HERE. Well worth a look as it says what all the special features are (a LOT!) and that there is a 5.1 English surround audio mix!!! Can't wait to try this out! The Japanese DVD only had 2.0 surround.
I was curious as to what the reviewer thought of the English speaking cast but he doesn't mention them at all.
I'll have my copy in a week or so and will be reviewing it myself asap. Look forward to it!

Finally got around to placing my nice Amazon.com pre order which included the first Tsubasa DVD (at a 25% discount! WOO!) and xxxHolic #9 among other things and was disappointed to see that Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle #13 has been pushed back from a May release to the 12th of June! Not happy Jan!
Completely revamped the Manga Shopping Guide tonight (check it out!) so updated all of the release dates and uploaded several new manga covers that have just been released.
Speaking of covers, the cover for the second Tsubasa DVD has been released featuring Kurogane and Tomoyo. As will be the go from now on, I added it to the new DVD Shopping Guide.
It's been a busy night!

Chibiyuuto has posted several interviews that are great reads. The most interesting one goes on about how we're now 2/3rds of the way through the main Tsubasa story and that reading xxxHolic and Tsubasa together from now on is more important than before.

Crossover Info: While Ashura-o talks to Yuko and we see Larg, the black Mokona in this volume, these events (as far as I know) don't directly crossover into the continuity of the xxxHolic manga.
The first thing I have to say about this volume of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle is just how much I love the cover! The colours, the illustration, everything about it just lifts it above the already impressive CLAMP covers we've already seen for this series.
As for the interior, well as usual CLAMP produces some simply stunning artwork that's on par with the writing. This volume of the manga draws the Ashura-o / Yasha arc to a close while immediately starting the popular Piffle arc which will continue for the next few manga volumes. Also as an added bonus, in the back there is a fun murder mystery story focusing on Mokona that takes place outside continuity but is fun nonetheless.
Something that I enjoyed about this manga volume was how some of the ongoing plots are beginning to work their way into the foreground. Kurogane questions Fay about who he's running from, Fei Wang Reed discusses Yuko and her knowledge of the Clow Ruins and Ashura-o hints that Syaoran may be more than he seems and pretty much tells him as much to his face.
The only thing that I felt could have been left out of this arc was the ten or so pages that explained the concept of time travel. I know it's the Japanese style to always dumb down points like this, but in the process they make the characters come across as a little less intelligent than they are. One page was all that was needed to get the point across especially since Fei Wang Reed also talks about them time travelling almost immediately after Syaoran and Fay's exposition.
Overall though, this was a great read (as usual with Tsubasa).
xxxHolic & Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle End plus CLAMP in Wonderland 2 News
Chibiyuuto has posted a report from the New Years party CLAMP threw with some info on CLAMP in Wonderland as well as how xxxHolic and Tsubasa may end.
As they said yesterday, Ashura-ou will wake up. Then. They already talked about it previously, but they said "Tsubasa will end with a happy ending." Then they added "Except for one certain person, it will be a happy end". Who could that be?...Ass chin... ahem... Fei Wang, probably? It's not limited to the main characters only... right? (sweat) But, first of all is a happy ending. How many people are relieved. Wait a bit. Ohkawa-san said "CLAMP never drew works without a happy ending", so this means that in any way you look at it, it's a happy ending!! I mean. The happy endings she's talking about, they're not always what the readers expected/hoped to happen. No, maybe not. Aaah. I'm full of anxiety... Give to XXXHOLiC a happy ending too. Ah yeah! From the many conversations they did, I got that XXXHOLiC will end after Tsubasa's ending.
[About that, what was said at the event is that Tsubasa's and XXXHOLiC's end will develop together. And that when we reach Tsubasa's end, XXXHOLiC's mystery will be solved. In that sense, we would need to see Tsubasa's end firstly in order to understand XXXHOLiC's. Either way, both series will end close to each other, but that doesn't mean they'll end at the same WEEK. So we might have some chapters left after either one of them is over.
Also, it was also said that even though so far XXXHOLiC and TRC were drawn in a way that you could read one perfectly well without having to read the other too, from now on this will become more strict/severe, meaning that reading both works will help you understand better their ends.]
