I quit Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion
This will be my first and last post about the anime series, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion.
I gave this series a go because CLAMP designed the characters and was illustrating the DVD covers, etc but I just can't watch any more. I got up to episode 6 and just had to turn it off. It's so blatantly racist and nationalistic it's offensive.
The portrayal of the British characters is over stereotypical in some respects (such as clothes and architecture. ) yet so completely off in other areas such as their blatant disregard for civilians during times of war and militaristic nature that it becomes almost a joke.
It's as if the tv station is trying to breed racism and reinforce an image of non-Japanese people that I though was on the way out. In the first episode for crying out loud, we have a seen of a nice, gentle Japanese elderly couple who get their brains splattered all over room simply because the British army decided to kill all civilians in the area.
This show is just offensive. If the "bad guys" were, say aliens I really wouldn't have a problem but some things should be off limits, especially in children's programming and writing a story where the "bad guys" are another nation is taking things too far.
Something else I find shocking is that it seems to encourage terrorism. Not just in the general sense though, in the sense that it's every Japanese teenager's right to stand up and fight the establishment. If that means killing people, all the better.
The leader of the terrorist cell in the show is a high school girl and the main character, Lelouch actually assassinates the overly French political leader in charge of Japan within the first few episodes.
There's enough nationalistic bull in Japan as it is without an Animé series reinforcing such deluded ideals.
I must say I'm so disappointed in CLAMP for being involved in a project like this Given their history of creating stories involving mixed racial couples (a Japanese Sakura and a Chinese Syaoran for example) and Korean myth (Legend of Chun Hyang) this comes as a complete surprise. I'm hoping that they didn't realise the story content of Code Geass before signing on.
The animation and music are top notch, but simply due to it's thematic nature I can't believe so many non-Japanese anime and manga fans are following this series and even creating fan sites and listings about it.
I for one am tuning out and writing a letter of complaint
HERE.
Edit: This is a copy of the email that I just sent.
"I am writing to express my complete disgust concerning the new anime series, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion.
As an Australian, I find the series to be completely offensive and racist and something that shouldn't be on air due to the amount of influence it will have on children in Japan and other individuals.
The fact that Europeans are portrayed as villains is shocking and their portrayal inaccurate ("Yes my Lord") but the amount of racism from the main characters who are supposed to be heroes and role models for children leaves me speechless.
I also find it incredibly irresponsible, especially in a country such as Japan who has suffered at the hands of terrorists to show a series were the main characters ARE TERRORISTS who kill and assassinate people and are seen in a good light.
Until shows like this are removed from Japanese television the image of Japan being a racist one will not change in the eyes of non-Japanese both in and outside of Japan. "I'm interested in people's opinions on this series. Feel free (as always) to comment on this post.

Tsubasa Chronicle Second DVD Box
I grabbed the final Japanese Tsubasa Chronicle DVD this afternoon and LOVE the box that came with it! It's in a very similar design to the second xxxHolic anime box, it had to be intentional.
I'll be doing an in depth review this weekend, but for now here's an edit of three photos I took of the box put together.
Definitely better than the first box I think.
Is it just me, or does Sakura look very Card Captor Sakuraish?

I just noted that Amazon has updated their pages for the
Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle #1 DVD Regular Edition and the
Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle #1 DVD "Starter Kit" with the images of the covers. What's interesting is that the
Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle #1 DVD "Starter Kit" cover is the same as the
Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle #1 DVD Regular Edition but with an extra fancy border around it hinting that the box may
not be the same as the Japanese version which featured a manga style drawing by CLAMP for the release.
Something else that I just realised is that the anime series is being marketed as "Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle". Why is this strange? Well in Japan the anime dropped the "Reservoir" to become simply "Tsubasa Chronicle". Funny how the English version is going back to the full name used for the manga. I like it personally and always thought it was lazy on Bee Train's part to shorten the anime title.
I'll open this up for discussion so post your opinions in the comments below. What do you think? New box art good? Longer or shorter name for the series? How do you talk about the show? I normally just say "Tsubasa" actually.

Just got some great gifts from an affiliate and added them to
the gift section. Cheers,
Misty!.
In Tsubasa news, two new voice actors have been announced, Caitlin Glass and Monica Rial. Still no info on who will be playing who. (Thanks to Tsubasa101 for the tip!)
In general news (and tragic) my Sailor Moon site, Moonkitty.NET and this site's mirror site, Link (the xxxHolic site) have been offline for a few days now but they should be back up very soon. Several of my fan listings are also offline. Sorry for the inconvenience and broken link and images hosted on those servers.

I decided to check the
Amazon Tsubasa Chronicle page and was surprised to see the first DVD titled "Gathering of Fates".
Interesting. None of the episode titles come close to this. Looks like they're giving each DVD their own name. As long as they number them, I'll be happy. The Card Captor Sakura DVDs are annoying as HELL because of all the "clever" titles they gave the disks. Whoever though viewers would like titles over disk numbers needs to be drug out in the street and shot.
Tsubasa looks to be getting numbers though. Yay.

The cover to the
first Tsubasa Chronicle DVD has been released and you can see it on the right hand menu. Looks like they've kept the Region 2 (Japanese DVD) artwork though have replaced the title with the Del Ray manga version.
No information yet on the box artwork though I'm assuming it will be the same as the Japanese. I'm kind of hoping for different artwork though as I already have the Region 2 box.

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles #10
Buy Now From Amazon.com!Crossover Info: While Ashura-o talks to Yuko and we see Larg, the black Mokona in this volume, these events (as far as I know) don't directly crossover into the continuity of the xxxHolic manga.
The first thing I have to say about this volume of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle is just how much I
love the cover! The colours, the illustration, everything about it just lifts it above the already impressive CLAMP covers we've already seen for this series.
As for the interior, well as usual CLAMP produces some simply stunning artwork that's on par with the writing. This volume of the manga draws the Ashura-o / Yasha arc to a close while immediately starting the popular Piffle arc which will continue for the next few manga volumes. Also as an added bonus, in the back there is a fun murder mystery story focusing on Mokona that takes place outside continuity but is fun nonetheless.
Something that I enjoyed about this manga volume was how some of the ongoing plots are beginning to work their way into the foreground. Kurogane questions Fay about who he's running from, Fei Wang Reed discusses Yuko and her knowledge of the Clow Ruins and Ashura-o hints that Syaoran may be more than he seems and pretty much tells him as much to his face.
The only thing that I felt could have been left out of this arc was the ten or so pages that explained the concept of time travel. I know it's the Japanese style to always dumb down points like this, but in the process they make the characters come
across as a little less intelligent than they are. One page was all that was needed to get the point across especially since Fei Wang Reed also talks about them time travelling almost immediately after Syaoran and Fay's exposition.
Overall though, this was a great read (as usual with Tsubasa).
